She holds a Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University of Michigan with research interests in HIV, hepatitis, and other infectious diseases. She served as Assistant Director at the Houston Health Department and graduated from the National Public Health Leadership Institute. She serves on variety of national, state and local committees and has testified before Congress about Ebola preparedness.
