Sporting Clays is an exciting form of clay pigeon shooting, commonly described as “golf with a shotgun”. It involves shooting clay targets at multiple locations (called stations). The original idea behind sporting clays was to create an experience that more closely reflects actual hunting conditions.
Capital Campaign
The Zonta Club of Houston greatly appreciates the support of the community in our on-going fundraising efforts. Thank you for your generosity.
A Capital Campaign offers an alternate venue to ensure that our fundraising activities are available throughout the year. The generosity of our supporters has ensured that we are able to provide three scholarships to deserving women in the Houston community. Recipients of the Young Women in Public Affairs, and Jane M. Klausman Women in Business scholarships are forwarded to Zonta's District and International levels for additional consideration.
Young Women in Public Affairs Scholarship ($1250 award)
This scholarship is designed to encourage high school women to pursue careers and seek leadership positions in public policy, government and volunteer organizations. Local high schools are notified of the availability of the scholarship as well as how to apply. The application is also available for download from the Scholarships page.
Jane M. Klausman Women In Business Scholarship ($1250 award)
This scholarship offers financial aid to female, undergraduate and graduate students preparing for careers in business and business management. The Zonta Club of Houston mails applications to the eight colleges and universities in the Houston and surrounding communities that award business degrees. The application is also available for download from the Scholarships page.
Applications are reviewed by a committee of club members to select the recipients.
Marge Greene Non-Traditional Scholarship – (up to $1000 award)
The non-traditional scholarship offers financial aid to women seeking post high school training or certification programs that do not require a college degree. The money may be used for program costs or the purchase of required materials associated with non-traditional training and/or employment. Applicants may apply for amounts from $50 to $1000; a committee of club members review all requests to determine the appropriateness of the request.
One-third of donations received support Zonta's International Service Projects. More information on the International Service Projects and Zonta International Foundation can be found at Zonta International.
